Who would benefit from physical therapy?

A physical therapist is specially trained to acknowledge symptoms, identify the underlying problem which causes the symptoms, and customize a treatment program to address the underlying problem and the client’s goals. Lift Bridge Physical Therapy does not believe in a one size fits all approach- we work with you to develop the most optimal plan for your unique needs.

BABIES: An experienced pediatric physical therapist is on expert on infant motor development. A physical therapist can help problem solve tummy time for more medically complex babies or for babies that just never seem to like it. A physical therapist can address torticollis and plagiocephaly, delayed milestones, brachial plexus or other birth injuries, hip dysplasia, and many other genetic and neuromuscular disorders. A pediatric physical therapist can also provide guidance on how you can optimize your infant’s development.

CHILDREN: Physical therapy could be advantageous if your child seems to have growing pains, walks without their heels touching the floor, w-sits, demonstrates retained primitive reflexes, is clumsy, has recently come out of a cast, has a diagnosis of ADD/ADHD, ASD, or apraxia. In addition, physical therapy should be considered when there are constipation and/or bed wetting issues beyond the realm of potty training. Children are developing aches and pains related to less physical activity, possible obesity, and increased screen time. A pediatric physical therapist is uniquely qualified to address these challenges in a fun and engaging way. School PT is meant to address educational need. Consider the benefits of episodic PT treatment outside of the educational model to address specific goals or equipment needs.

ADULTS: Physical therapy can address musculoskeletal aches and pains. Consider an annual physical therapy assessment to proactively address any deficits and avoid those aches and pains. Physical therapy can help you develop a realistic plan for return to exercise after some time away. Physical therapy can help you manage orthopedic injuries and neuromuscular and autoimmune disorders. Massage and joint mobilizations are within the scope of physical therapist practice.
